Module 1 – Introducing Managing Safely
- Moral, legal, and financial drivers for safety excellence.
- Roles and responsibilities of managers, supervisors, and contractors.
- IOSH Plan–Do–Check–Act framework and governance expectations.
Module 2 – Assessing Risks
- Hazard identification techniques, job safety analysis, and bow-tie thinking.
- Risk matrices, likelihood/severity scoring, and prioritising actions.
- Documenting assessments and communicating findings to teams.
Module 3 – Controlling Risks
- Selecting controls using the hierarchy and safe systems of work.
- Permit-to-work integration, isolation procedures, and contractor controls.
- Monitoring implementation and closing out corrective actions.
Module 4 – Understanding Responsibilities
- Key legislation and enforcement routes relevant to your jurisdiction.
- Organisation-wide accountability, consultation, and worker rights.
- Developing policies, training plans, and competence frameworks.
Module 5 – Identifying Hazards
- Mechanical, electrical, chemical, biological, ergonomic, and psychosocial hazards.
- High-risk activities: work at height, confined space, hot work, and machine guarding.
- Case studies adapted from Highwave Training to reinforce sector-specific risks.
Module 6 – Investigating Incidents
- Incident response planning, evidence gathering, and interviewing techniques.
- Root-cause analysis (5 Whys, fishbone diagrams) and action tracking.
- Reporting, lessons learned, and sharing findings with stakeholders.
Module 7 – Measuring Performance
- Setting leading and lagging indicators that align with business targets.
- Designing inspections, audits, and management reviews.
- Continuous improvement, change management, and maintaining momentum.
Module 8 – Protecting Our Environment (IOSH optional)
- Recognising how environmental management integrates with health & safety.
- Waste, resource efficiency, and sustainability considerations for managers.
Standard delivery spans four days (32 contact hours) with optional evening tutorials. Assessment includes:
- 30-question multiple choice and short-answer examination moderated by IOSH.
- Workplace risk improvement project demonstrating hazard analysis, control selection, and action planning.
- Trainer feedback prior to final submission to maximise pass confidence.
- Successful delegates receive the IOSH Managing Safely certificate (UK), normally issued within 4–6 weeks.
- Counts toward 24 CPD hours and supports progression to IOSH Safety & Health for Business Level 3 or ProQual NVQ Level 6.
- Corporate clients receive a post-training implementation summary and recommendations.
